Mr. Peter Mwangi Karanja holds a Bachelor of Industrial Technology (Egerton University), Master of Business Administration in Strategy (Laikipia University), diploma in Mechanical Engineering and a certificate in Project Monitoring and Evaluation. He is a registered Professional Engineering Technologist with Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) and a member of Institution of Engineering Technologist and Technician, Kenya (IET) as well as a member of Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).

He joined Thika Coffee Mills in 2006 as a plant technician and later recruited in the Kenya Defence Forces in 2007. On completing the basic military training, he served in various capacities at the Kenya Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps. He later served as an instructor at the Kenya Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering until he left the military in May 2014. He joined KenGen in June 2014 where he has worked in geothermal resource development, specifically in geothermal drilling. He is a certified ISO auditor. He is currently serving as chairman Board of Management, Kaimbaga Secondary School, and a member of Board of Management, Mihuti Secondary School. He is the founding member of Lions Club of Nyandarua and Beyond the Obvious, which is a community-based organization in Nyandarua County.
