Mr. George Otieno Oyiro
About Me
As a detail-oriented Registered Graduate Engineering Technologist-Civil Engineering (IET-K -6624), I bring a strong initiative, motivation, and drive to achieve long-term success in the field. My proactive approach to career development is matched by my willingness to travel globally, including to remote environments, to deliver excellent engineering solutions. I am committed to continuous improvement and consistently meeting project objectives, currently contributing to a dynamic organization of dedicated professionals.
My career has been marked by significant contributions to various critical infrastructure projects. I have conducted structural integrity tests on prominent buildings and bridges, including Cancom House in Nairobi, Nkabune TTI, Stony Athi Bridge, and several key bridges along the Kenyan Coast (Nyali, Kilifi, Sabaki, and Mbogolo). My expertise extends to pavement evaluation and monitoring of major transportation hubs like Moi International and Jomo Kenyatta International airports, as well as numerous paved and unpaved roads across Kenya. I am proficient in using advanced tools such as the Road Laser Profiler, Falling Weight Deflectometer, and Dynamic Cone Penetrometer for these assessments.
I have served as a Materials Technologist and Project Technologist on numerous road and bridge projects under the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). This includes roles in Narok County for KURA and KeRRA, and on the Duka Moja-Narok (B1) Road for KeNHA. My responsibilities have encompassed supervision and quality control of materials and ongoing works, field sampling, laboratory testing of pavement materials, and ensuring compliance with all project Quality Assurance procedures. I also have experience in managing regional laboratories, preparing and reviewing work plans, and providing technical advice on tested materials.
My technical skills include conducting physical tests on a wide range of materials, from geogrids, geotextiles, timber, and steel to tiles, tarpaulins, and iron sheets. I am adept at analyzing laboratory test results, reporting findings, and researching new construction materials, such as soil stabilizers. Beyond technical proficiencies, I possess strong problem-solving, organizational, creative and critical thinking, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills, complemented by proven leadership abilities.
Academically, I hold a Diploma in Analytical Chemistry from The Kenya Polytechnic (2002-2004), a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2020-2023) and a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering (2023-2025) from Rift Valley Institute of Technology, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Building and Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Mombasa (2025-To Date). My professional development is further enhanced by specialized training in Supervisory Management, Superpave Laboratory Performance Evaluation, Basic Occupational Health and Safety, and the use and maintenance of advanced road design and testing equipment. I am dedicated to leveraging my comprehensive expertise to contribute to impactful civil engineering projects.
