About Me
Thomas M. Murimi is a Professional Technologist practicing Electrical Engineering focusing on Operations and Maintenance of Power Plants.
In his current role at The Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen), serves as the Electrical Team Lead – Protection, Instrumentation, and Control at Kamburu Power Station. He has played a key role in optimizing station availability while overseeing the maintenance and performance of major plant equipment such as Generators, Transformers, GIS Switchgear, UPS, and Battery systems.
His work has consistently focused on improving reliability and reducing downtime. A recent example is his innovation project at Kipevu III Power Plant where he wrote an award-winning innovation paper on wireless big-end bearing temperature monitoring system, cutting equipment downtime from 60 to 10 days. He has also led and participated in several strategic in-house projects—such as Main Transformer Replacements, Protection Upgrades, And DCS Modifications—delivering them on time and within budget.
Thomas obtained a Bachelors of Technology Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The Technical University of Mombasa and a Diploma in Electrical Power Systems from the same University. He is a Professional Technologist under KETRB and holds a Solar T3 and Generator A2 Licenses both from EPRA.
